What support does the government offer to employees with reduced working hours?
As part of its job-retention wage-subsidy program, the government shall assume a part of employees' lost wages for the duration of their reduced working hours as of 16 April. This subsidy may be requested for a maximum duration of three months. The employer must commit to maintaining the number of its employees from the date of submitting the subsidy request to at least one month following disbursement thereof. Employees continuously employed by the employer between the date of announcing the state of emergency and the date of submitting the subsidy request, even if working in a "home office" arrangement, are eligible for this program. The employee is eligible for the subsidy if the employee does not receive any other employment related government support for the same employment relationship and has been employed by the employer from at least the starting date of the state of emergency. The value of the subsidy shall be the equivalent of seventy percent of the monthly absentee fee, less the personal income tax advance payment and contributions calculated as per the general relevant regulations for the lost working hours resulting from the thirty, forty or fifty percent work-time reduction. Upon calculating the monthly subsidy amount, the maximum absentee fee, less taxes and contributions, may not exceed twice the value of the lowest mandatory wage, less taxes and contributions effective at the time of submission. The employer shall submit its subsidy request during the state of emergency or within one month from the date of termination of such state, via electronic means, on the specific form available on the National Employment Service official website.
